Graduate Certificate in Social Science
The Graduate Certificate in Social Science allows you the freedom to select areas of study according to your personal interest and professional need. It is also designed to enhance critical and reflective professional practice in the human services sector.
Two units in social science theories and research methods are core components of the course. In addition to these two core units, you can choose to complete a research report, or two specialist professional units from the wide range available.
UWS offers a unique range of choices in the Graduate Certificate in Social Science and many units are available in flexible modes that recognise your competing demands of study, work and family. You may choose from ‘specialist’ units with specialist lecturers who emphasise contemporary social and professional relevance. The course provides a core of social science studies in research methods, theory and their applications.
Career Opportunities
Many students enrol in postgraduate studies to enhance their professional status and career opportunities in their chosen fields with their current employers, or to enhance mobility within their sectors. Depending on choices of specialist units, graduates are well-placed for careers in a range of government (local, state and federal) and non-government and community agencies in areas as diverse as community welfare (including services for children and youth), health services (including public health), research and development, policy development and analysis, human resources, cultural and heritage work.
