English Requirements

English language rquirements

All international students must have a good command of written and spoken English. If your first language is English or if you can provide satisfactory evidence that English was the medium of instruction in your secondary or tertiary studies, you may be considered as meeting the requirement of proficiency in the English language.

If English is not your first language or was not the medium of instruction in your secondary or tertiary studies, you are required to demonstrate your proficiency in the English language by achieving a prescribed level in an approved English examination or test before you can receive a full offer of a place.

Approved English Language Tests

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS:

For all undergraduate courses except B Medicine/B Surgery:

IELTS - 6.5 overall score with a minimum 6.0 in each subtest
TOEFL - 575 (minimum 4.5 in TWE)
TOEFL computer based test - 232 (minimum 4.5 in Essay Rating)
TOEFL Internet based test - 89  (writing = 21 and all subtests = 18)
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - (CAE)
Grade = B
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
Grade = C


For B Medicine/B Surgery:

IELTS - 7.0 overall score with a minimum 6.5 in each subtest
TOEFL 600 (Minimum 5.0 in TWE)
TOEFL computer based test - 250 (Minimum 5.0 essay writing)
TOEFL Internet based test - 100
(writing = 24 and all subtests = 22 )

POSTGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS:

For all courses (except those listed below) and UWS research Degrees:


IELTS - 6.5 overall score with a minimum 6.0 in each subtest
TOEFL - 575 (minimum 4.5 in TWE)
TOEFL computer based test - 232 (minimum 4.5 in Essay Rating)
TOEFL Internet based test - 89
(writing = 21 and all subtests = 18)

Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - (CAE)
Grade = B
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
Grade = C

FOR PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COURSES:

Bachelor of Teaching
Master of Teaching
Bachelor of Special Ed
Master Teach (Special Ed)
TESOL/Interpreting & Translation

Please note:
  • Certain courses may have higher English Language requirements
  • When you apply for a Student Visa, Australian Immigration authorities may require additional evidence of your English level
  • If you do not meet the English language requirements you may be required to undertake an English language program.
