$25,000 Gift Supports UWS Medical Students
August 2011
The Rotary Club of Narellan scholarships have supported students in the School of Medicine at UWS since the School’s establishment in 2007.
Five local students are currently supported through the scholarships, which encourage talented students from the Macarthur region to study and train locally, supporting the health and medical needs of the local community.
At the 2011 Rotary Club of Narellan Charity Ball, ADCO Constructions and Narellan Town Centre presented cheques totalling $25,000 to the Dean of the School of Medicine to support the ongoing awarding of the Rotary Club of Narellan scholarships.
UWS was among a long list of beneficiaries at the event, including the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research at Liverpool Hospital, a collaboration between Ingham Enterprises, UWS, UNSW and the health services of South West Sydney.
In attendance at the event were two of the current Rotary Club of Narellan Scholarship recipients, Alan Dyason and Dean Zinghini.
Dean, a long term resident of the Macarthur area and an active supporter of the local community, was awarded his Rotary Club of Narellan Scholarship in 2010.
'The Rotary Club of Narellan Scholarship has helped alleviate the financial burden of attending university, allowing me to focus my time and energy on study and giving me the opportunity to do more for my local community.'
Alan received his scholarship this year and is already a regular at Rotary Club of Narellan meetings. He looks forward to getting involved in more Club activities and volunteering in the local community, with the support of the scholarship.
UWS is immensely grateful for the ongoing support of the Rotary Club of Narellan and its partners – these gifts are inspiring UWS students to be all they can be.
