Community Effort: UWS staff give over $50,000 to support our students

In just over three years UWS staff support for UWS Community Scholarships has topped $50,000.

UWS Staff Giving was launched in October 2009, since then UWS staff have given generously through fortnightly payroll deductions to support 5 important causes. Top of the list for staff gifts are scholarships for UWS students in need. 

In 2012, five UWS Community Scholarships valued at $5,000 a year, were awarded to students who are ‘doing it tough’.

Staff and Community Scholarship Recipents

Antonious Nehme, one of the recipients of the scholarships says ’The scholarship will allow me to finish my degree without financial hassles, which will in turn allow me to achieve my goal of becoming a prosecutor’. 

Its students like Antonious who need the support of the UWS community to reach their goals.

The continued support of staff and alumni is essential for us to provide these opportunities to UWS students. In 2013 we will award at least two more Community Scholarships thanks to gifts from alumni and staff.

We look forward to even greater staff participation in UWS Staff Giving to help create a sustainable future for the UWS Community Scholarships and enable us to support more UWS students experiencing hardship.
