Giving starts at home with UWS Staff
October 2011
This year UWS staff have supported the important work of The Salvation Army, RSPCA, Northcott Disability Services and Oxfam, raising over $10,000 through the UWS Staff Giving program.
Staff have also given generously to support and encourage UWS students with more than $10.000 for scholarships. Through these efforts 4 new scholarships will be awarded in 2012.
Most recently and in response to the East Africa Food Crisis, UWS staff and friends of the University contributed a further $14,000 to Oxfam’s disaster relief efforts in affected regions. The Australian Government recently announced a commitment to match all donations towards the appeal from now until November 30, effectively doubling the impact of our gifts. This news could not come at a better time as the situation in the Horn of Africa is still dire and the threat of widespread disease looms.
Oxfam is actively working in affected regions to provide water, sanitation and essentials to the thousands at risk as a result of this crisis.
Foreign Minister, Kevin Rudd has encouraged all Australians to dig deep before the crisis worsens ‘I call on all Australians, from individuals to businesses, to donate whatever they can spare during October and November to help us save more lives.’
Please donate now to double your donation
- $85 will become $170 and is enough to provide ten families with hygiene kits, helping to protect them from disease
- $160 will become $320 and is enough to supply four families in East Africa with essential food packs
- $219 will become $438 and is enough to install two tap stands in East African refugee camps, providing essential water to people who need it most
UWS staff can make a pre-tax donation to UWS Scholarships or any of our charity partners through UWS Staff Giving. By signing up to a regular fortnightly donation your gift can become even more meaningful.
