Prize Nights 2011

UWS Prize Nights and Awards

July 2011

Held annually in June and July, UWS prize ceremonies celebrate the achievements of students across the University’s three colleges.

In 2011, more than 250 prizes were awarded across the three prize nights, demonstrating the talents and commitment of so many UWS students.Prize Awards Hawkesbury Foundation

Nearly one third of these prizes were made possible through the generous support of donors, a large number of whom were in attendance at the ceremonies to present their awards to students.

The UWS Prizes program, supported by donors and friends, acknowledges dedicated and high-achieving students, helping to encourage and inspire them to continue striving for excellence.

At the College of Health and Science Prize Ceremony, Emeritus Professor Richard Bawden, a prize donor, spoke of his personal experience as a scholarship and prize recipient at university. Professor Bawden highlighted the impact this support can have on the lives of students and the significance of being recognised for achievement.

“I speak from personal experience when I say that prizes and scholarships can have a great impact on a student’s life - for I am a scholarship boy! I was the first in my family to go to a university, where my undergraduate studies, like those earlier at my denominational grammar school, were only made possible through scholarship support. And the same was true for my post gradudate studies on the other side of the world here in Australia. Such recognition of support from donors, particularly business and community leaders, provides for incredible opportunity and for motivation, and we in the university are deeply grateful to them for their generosity".

Other speakers across the three nights included Peter Stewart, Managing Principal at Coleman Greig Lawyers and UWS alumnus, and Chris Legg, Chief Executive Officer at KU Children’s Services.

UWS would like to thank all those supporters and partners who made the prize nights possible.
