Students Make Graduation Gift

UWS Students Make Graduation Gift

October 2011

Join the Graduation Gift Honour RollOur students are more than just that ... they’re donors too.

This September graduation period saw the first graduation gift appeal launched to graduating students and their guests. The appeal encouraged all graduates and their supporters to reflect on the challenges of university and to celebrate their achievements with a graduation gift.

Gifts to the appeal will support UWS students who may otherwise struggle to make it to graduation. We want all students to reach their graduation day but some UWS students face many challenges along the way.

  • Almost 7,500 UWS students are from disadvantaged areas
  • Around 50% are the first in their family to go to university
  • About 1 in 3 undergraduate students work more than 20 hours a week while studying

UWS Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold During his ceremonial address, UWS Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold encouraged graduating students and friends to give just $20 to help support over 40 scholarships for UWS students in need and to continue the University’s proud tradition of philanthropy.

With staff and alumni gifts and support for the graduation gift appeal, more than $10,000 has been committed already this year to support UWS students in need.

All donors to the graduation gift appeal have been recognised in an online honour roll of donors. View the Graduation Honour Roll here.

You can join our new graduates in supporting UWS students by making a gift today.
