How do I participate?
Join now by submitting your form online.
Or print and fill in a payroll deduction form (MS Word, 45Kb) and send it to: Staffing Services, Human Resources Division, University of Western Sydney, Building AE, Locked Bag 1797, Penrith South DC NSW 1797. Or fax it to: 02 9678 7555.
Will UWS match my donation?
The University is committed to matching all gifts from staff through the UWS Staff Giving program to support student scholarships. However, the University is unable to match gifts in support of the other charity partners at this time.
Will there be any change to my salary if I participate in the program?
Participating in the workplace giving program allows you to spread your donation over the year, rather than making a larger one-off donation. Your gross salary remains unchanged and the donation is deducted each pay period before tax is calculated. Depending on your individual circumstances, there will be a change in your take home pay to reflect the amount of the donation and any reductions in the amount of tax withheld.
What are the tax implications?
Depending on the amount donated each pay period you may have the amount of tax withheld reduced to take account of the donation made. For example, if your gross annual salary is $55,000 and you elect to donate $10 per fortnight, the tax saving is $4 per fortnight. See the Tax Table for Workplace Giving (opens in a new window) to calculate your savings.
What happens when it is time to lodge my tax return?
If you donate through the workplace giving program you will be entitled to claim the total amount of donations in your tax return. You will do this regardless of whether you have been getting pay-day tax benefits for your donations. You will be notified of how much you have donated over the year on your annual payment summary.
Will my donations be confidential?
Participation in the workplace giving program is completely confidential.
The University appreicates the opportunity to recognise the support of all donors but you can chose to remain anonymous.
Can I make a one-off donation?
It is possible to make a one-off donation, however making regular contributions means you can spread your donation over the year and provides a regular income stream for your chosen charity. Once you have set up your regular donations, you do not need to do anything else.
Can I support an organisation not included in the program?
Staff are of course welcome to make contributions to other organisations via their own means, however only the organisations listed as participating in the program can be supported through workplace giving. The organisations benefiting from the program will be reviewed every two years to ensure they continue to meet staff giving preferences.
To ensure the program can have meaningful impact on the organisations being supported, a minimum number of staff supporters will be needed before a new beneficiary can be added to the program. The minimum number of supporters required for this is 12.
Can casual employees make regular contributions through workplace giving?
Unfortunately it is not possible to set up regular payroll deductions of any kind for casual employees due to the irregular nature of casual work.
