Supporting our Students

Most of our students are often more than just students – some hold down multiple jobs, many are raising families, while others are determined to beat the odds, despite experiencing social and economic disadvantage.

The reality is ...

  • 30% of our students work more than 20 hours a week, while studying
  • 7,500 UWS students are from disadvantaged areas
  • Around 50% of our students are the first in their family to attend university

But our students, like the people of Western Sydney, are passionate and determined to succeed, despite setbacks along the way.

In 2012 UWS announced five new Community Scholarships to students doing it tough. Each scholarship, valued at $5,000 per annum, has been funded by gifts from UWS staff, students and alumni. These scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate hardship and determination to furthering themselves through education.

Your support can give more students the encouragement to be all they can be while making us proud to be a part of this spirited community.
