Parramatta Community Justice Clinic

The Parramatta Community Justice Clinic

The PCJCThe University of Western Sydney’s Parramatta Community Justice Clinic (PCJC) provides families and individuals from Greater Western Sydney with free legal advice and support when they need it most.

The PCJC is run by UWS law students under the close supervision of practicing solicitors from Macquarie Legal Centre.

The PCJC is dedicated to:

  • serving the members of the community who cannot access adequate legal representation
  • promoting social justice to all UWS law students
  • identifying research opportunities in the area of clinical legal education

UWS law students learning by doingThe PCJC gives UWS law students the chance to learn by doing.

UWS law students assist clients with a variety of legal issues, including civil, criminal and family law matters from traffic offences and motor vehicle accidents, home building and neighbourhood disputes, to family breakdown, divorce and child support.

Students also support clients with the often daunting administrative side of the law, helping them understand and complete legal paperwork and prepare for court, as well as providing referrals to other external legal services.

The work of the clinic has helped to free up important Court resources and complements well the work of existing service providers.

Since it first opened its doors, there have been 111 client referrals through the PCJC with 135 UWS law students gaining experience in the clinic.

Gifts to the PCJC will provide UWS law students with access to essential real-world experiences, giving them exposure to real life issues faced by those most in need in our community and preparing them for their future roles as leaders in the profession.
