Rosemary Hawkins
Rosemary Hawkins, resident of Kurrajong, is in her third year of the Bachelor of Arts at the University of Western Sydney’s Kingswood campus.
Rosemary is majoring in English text and writing and is extremely passionate about study. She is a single mum of five and decided to return to study after raising her children.
‘When my husband died I knew I needed a focus and I thought I would attempt to get into university. My goals are to pursue my writing career and to get involved in mature age education and to be a role model for my children.’
Initially, studying at university was a huge learning curve for Rosemary, however over the years she has adjusted and now mentors other mature age students on coping with study later in life.
‘Receiving a scholarship certainly helps with the financial cost of books and travel. It will also enable me to do some extra courses in my area of interest – writing’
‘I feel honoured to be chosen – it feels like my journey is being validated.’
