Exchange and Study Abroad students are required to complete an application as described here:

1. Watch our welcome video (opens in a new window) explaining the application process and tips about how to apply.
2. Search the online handbook to find subjects offered in the session/s for which you are applying and on your selected campus. Subjects are what you might know in your home university as ‘units’, ‘courses’ or ‘modules’, whereas ‘programs’ are what you might know as a ‘courses’ or ‘degrees’.

Please note, exchange and study abroad students can choose from subjects across most of our schools at Western Sydney University, except the School of Medicine or School of Nursing and Midwifery. Cross-school enrolment is permitted.

3. If you are applying under the exchange program, you must have been already nominated by your home university. Evidence of nomination in the form of a letter is not usually required in your application.
4. Complete your online application through the Western Sydney University International Application System (opens in a new window) before the deadline of your initial teaching period:
   • Autumn (March - June) - 31 October
   • Quarter 1 + Quarter 2 (January - June) - Postgraduate Business only - 31 October
   • Spring (July - November) - 30 April
   • Quarter 3 + Quarter 4 (June - November) - Postgraduate Business only - 30 April
5. Please note that Quarter sessions are only available for POSTGRADUATE BUSINESS students where they will study two subjects per Quarter (equivalent to a full study load) and combine two Quarters in order to complete the equivalent of a semester load. Students attending Quarter programs will only be able to study Postgraduate Business subjects.
6. Select the appropriate Study Abroad or Exchange program when submitting your application. Please do not apply for any programs described as 'Bachelor of ...' or Master of...'  as this will delay your application process. 
   • Study Abroad programs are for students from home universities that may or may not have an active exchange agreement with Western Sydney University (tuition fees apply).
     • Study Abroad: 1 Session Program or
     • Study Abroad: 2 Session Programs
   • Exchange programs are only available for nominated students from home universities with an active exchange agreement with Western Sydney University
     • Exchange: 1 Session Program
     • Exchange: 2 Session Programs
7. In order for us to process your applications in time, please remember to include all the required documents and saved the files with their respective names, as follows:
   • Copy of your passport (if available) - Name of the file: PASSPORT
   • Certified copy of your most recent Academic transcript (translated to English if applicable) - Name of the file: TRANSCRIPTS
   • Recognised English test (if required). - Name of the file: ENGLISH CERTIFICATE
8. Select the campus of your choice based on where your preferred subjects are being offered. Most Exchange and Study Abroad students prefer to study at one of the campuses located in the suburb of Parramatta.

If English is not your first language and you have not been studying in English at the tertiary level, you will need to include a recognised English test with your application. The evidence of English proficiency is valid for a period of two years from the date of the test or the date of the completion of studies.

• IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 in all bands
• TOEFL iBT: Total score 82, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13  
• Pearsons Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50
• Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Cambridge English level B2, overall score 176, no section less than 169
• Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A statement on partner's letterhead, signed by a staff member of authority of the partner's English language centre, declaring that the applicant has been evaluated to have a CEFR level of B2 or above.
• European senior secondary school qualifications:
  - Denmark Studentereksamen: Minimum score of 7 in English A or 9 in English B
  - Finland Upper Secondary School Certificate: Minimum score of 8 in English A or English (Advanced)
  - Germany Abitur: Minimum score of 3 (7-9)/Satisfactory in Advanced Level English
  - Germany DAAD: Minimum score of B in all 4 categories of the DAAD certificate (old) or B2 in each category of the DAAD certificate (new)
  - Netherlands Voorbereidend Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs (VWO): Minimum score of 7 in final year English
  - Norway Vitnemal: Minimum score of 4 in English
  - Sweden Slutbetyg: Minimum score of 4/VG in English A or B (old system) or Minimum score of C in English 5 or 6 (new system)

For additional tests or certifications equivalent to IELTS (overall score of 6.5 with minimum score of 6 in all bands) accepted by Western Sydney University, refer to the approved English language entry requirements (PDF, 61.16 KB) (opens in a new window).

In order to receive your Australian student visa, it is mandatory that you purchase Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) (opens in a new window).

Please select the appropriate option for you when you are applying:

• if you would like Western Sydney University to organise your compulsory OSHC with our nominated provider Bupa (opens in a new window), for which you will pay the nominated fee indicated in your offer letter as part of your offer acceptance process; or
• if you wish to organise your own OSHC. If you wish to organise this yourself, you MUST purchase it through one of the Australian Government-endorsed providers

Once the above documents are received the application can be processed.

Subject to your application being successful, we will send an Offer Letter along with an Offer Pack.

An Offer Letter for:

• Exchange students will be forwarded to you, and copied to your home university
• Study Abroad students will be sent directly to you or via your agent (if you have one)

To accept the Offer you will need to upload/complete the following via your online application

• Signed Acceptance Form (which is part of your Offer Letter)
• Payment (if applicable - and to be made electronically)
• Proof you have obtained correct Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), if you have elected to purchase this yourself and not via Western Sydney University

Once you have correctly accepted your Offer, we will issue your eCoE. This is the required document to apply for your Australian student visa (subclass 500).

Please note, you cannot apply for your Australian student visa until you have your eCoE.

Once you have accepted your Offer and received your eCoE, you can start making preparations to study at Western Sydney University, including applying for your Australian student visa (subclass 500).
