Eligibility

Am I eligible to graduate?

If you're an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student and enrolled in the last session of your course, then you are eligible to graduate and need to complete and submit an application to graduate online via MySR.

How do I apply to graduate?

The deadlines for submissions of applications to graduate are published in the key dates box on the graduating webpage. You will also be advised by email of the opening and closing dates for applications. If you miss the deadline to apply, you will have to wait for the next graduation period.

If you're studying in Australia you must apply online through MySR to graduate.

If you're studying in Hong Kong you must complete an Application to Graduate form that will be sent to you via email from the Graduation Unit and submit it to your Program Administrator.

Graduation is not an automatic process. Therefore it is important to ensure:

  • your application has been lodged by the due date
  • any outstanding grades have been finalised
  • any advanced standing applications and/or cross institutional grades have been finalised
  • all fees and charges have been paid
  • any name changes have been submitted to a Student Central no later than six weeks prior to the commencement of the graduation period

How do I know if my application has been received?

If you apply online you will be taken to a confirmation page. If you have applied using a paper form an email will be sent to your UWS student email account confirming that your application to graduate has been received.

Under what circumstances will I not be able to graduate?

You will not be able to graduate if any or all of the following apply to you:

  • You have not completed your course requirements
  • You owe the University any fees (encumbrances)
  • You have incomplete grades (I, J, N or R)
  • You have not transferred to the correct course for graduation

Will I be advised if there's a problem with my application?

If there are any problems with your application you will be notified by an email sent to your student email account. Make sure you check your student email frequently.

Incorrect personal details

For name changes you must complete the Change of Personal Details form and lodge it at any Student Central no later than six weeks prior to the graduation ceremony.

You can update your address and contact details in MySR.

Please note that any name change required to your testamur or transcript after graduation will incur a fee. Go to the replacement testamur webpage for more information.

Deferring my graduation

If you wish to defer your graduation you will need to email the Assessment and Graduation Unit by the date listed in your invitation letter. If your request for deferral is not received by the due date or if you have not received confirmation of the deferral, you will be graduated in absentia in the current round of ceremonies.

If you have successfully deferred your graduation, you do not need to pay any fees for the graduation period. Information will be sent to you for the next period of ceremonies in which you will be graduating.
