The purpose of the statement is to assist in both national and international recognition of Australian qualifications and to promote international mobility and professional recognition of graduates.
Graduation Statements will include information about the award, UWS, the graduate’s academic results, additional course details, special awards or achievements and the Australian Higher Education system.
The following special awards or achievements earned during the period of your study for this degree, should appear at the end of Section 4 of your AHEGS:
• University Medal
• Dean’s Medal
• Academic merit scholarships
• Academic achievement prizes
Graduation Statements will be issued to graduating students in addition to their testamur. Graduation Statements will contain a course specific academic transcript so graduates will not receive a seperate academic transcript during the graduation ceremonies.
Academic transcripts may be issued at the end of each academic session whereas the Graduation Statement is only issued after course completion. Academic transcripts are a formal written record of results achieved in all enrolled units in a course. Graduation Statements record only studies undertaken for a particular award.
Students who complete their course at the end of 2010 and graduate at the April 2011 ceremonies will be the first to receive a Graduation Statement at their graduation ceremony. For those graduating in absentia, the statement will be posted with the other graduation documents.
Universities across Australia are now at various stages in the process of implementing Graduation Statements. It was recommended that Australian universities implement Graduation Statements over a three year period commencing as soon as practicable in 2008. UWS has agreed to provide all graduating students with a Graduation Statement, starting with students who complete their course at the end of second session 2010 and graduate at the April 2011 ceremonies. Graduates whose degrees were conferred (awarded) prior to April 2011 are not eligible for a Graduation Statement.
No, Graduation Statements are intended to be presented to prospective employers in Australia, as well as overseas. In most cases, the statement provides adequate information to help inform employment decisions. The presentation of information enables employers to easily compare applicants who have graduated from various Australian universities.
Yes, graduates' GPA will be included on the statement.
Yes, all results recorded for a specific award will appear on the statement, including failed grades and units withdrawn after the census date.
Yes, a Graduation Statement will be issued for each separate award that is achieved.
No, Graduation Statements will not be distributed retrospectively to graduates whose degrees were conferred (awarded) prior to April 2011.
Graduation Statements issued at the time of graduation will not incur a charge for graduating students. However, there will be a charge for any hardcopies requested in addition to that provided at graduation.
Every effort is made to ensure that the statements are correct. However, if there is a misprint or other error, graduates will need to contact graduations@uws.edu.au and return the original incorrect statement. Any replacement due to an error will be issued free of charge.
No, the Graduation Statement differs in content and purpose from an e-portfolio. E-portfolios are maintained by students and may incorporate a range of authenticated and unauthenticated information, whereas the Graduation Statement is provided by UWS and contains only authenticated, verifiable and centrally recorded information.
Some University prizes are awarded after graduation. A graduate awarded a University prize for performance in an award course after graduation will be eligible for a replacement Graduation Statement and will need to contact graduations@uws.edu.au once they have been notified of the prize.
At this stage the LPAB does not accept AHEGS and instead requests that you supply them with an Academic Transcript. Academic Transcripts are not provided upon graduation at UWS. You will need to order your Academic Transcript through iPay. Academic Transcript fees are $25 for those posted within Australia and $40 for those posted overseas.
