Dr Jing Han

Biography


Dr Jing Han received her PhD in English literature from the University of Sydney in 1995. She attained her Masters degree in English Literary Criticism from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BSFU) in 1986 and her BA in English at Lanzhou University in 1981. She has been working at SBS TV Australia as the chief subtitler. She started teaching at UWS in 2006. She is also an adjunct professor at the School of Foreign Languages and International Studies of Xian Jiaotong University.

Audiovisual Translation, Literary Translation, Cross-cultural & Cross-lingual Communications, Accreditation Studies, Translation Theories

Dr Jing Han also has extensive teaching engagement in China. She has taught Subtitling course at BSFU and been invited to deliver lectures on subtitling at Peking University, China International Publishing Group (CIPG), the Communication University of China, Beijing Normal University, China Central Television (CCTV), Xian Jiaotong University and Lanzhou University.

Professional Work


Over the past 15 years, Dr Han has subtitled more than 200 Chinese films and TV documentaries for the Australian audience, including Forever Enthralled (梅兰芳), If You Are the One (非诚勿扰), Red Cliff  (赤壁), Lust, Caution (色戒), The Treasure Hunter (刺陵), The Assembly (集结号), The Curse of Golden Flower (满城尽带黄金甲), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (卧虎藏龙), Hero (英雄), A World with Thieves (天下无贼), Crazy Racer (疯狂的赛车), Crazy Stone (疯狂的石头), Kekexili (可可西里), Not One Less (一个不少), The Road Home (我的父亲母亲), Blind Shaft (盲井), Beijing Bicycle (十七岁的单车), Together (和你在一起), Springtime in A Small Town (小城之春), The Blue Kite (蓝风筝), Suzhou River (苏州河), etc.

Presentations at Conferences 


Dr Han has presented frequently at national and international conferences on translation including FIT World Congress 2008 in Shanghai, Sydney Writers Festival 2009, Languages & the Media 2010 in Berlin, AUSIT Conference 2010 in Fremantle, the 4th International Media for All Conference 2011 in London and was invited as a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Translation and Cross-Cultural Communication 2011 in Brisbane.
