Biography


Dr Satomi Kawaguchi is Senior Lecturer and teaches Japanese and second language acquisition at the University of Western Sydney. She has published many journal articles and book chapters on Processability Theory and language learning, particularly Japanese L2. She is interested in developing theory-practice connections in language learning.

MA (1996). ANU. Referencial choice by native speakers and learners of Japanese.
M Lit (1994). ANU. Error analysis of the use of particles by Australians learning Japanese

(2010 - 2011): Pilot Project Research Scheme School of Humanities and Languages on Vocabulary learning, translation ability and syntactic development in second language: A cross-sectional study in English.

(2007 - 2009) (Along with five colleagues at School of Humanities & Languages): LTAP project on Development of Online Level 1 Language Resources in: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Italian and Spanish for the implementation of blended learning.

(2007 - 2008): Seed grant pilot project on Interdependence between vocabulary learning and syntactic development in second language.

 

Current Projects


(2010-): Vocabulary learning, translation ability and syntactic development in second language: A cross-sectional study in English.

(2009- ): Along with Bruno Di Biase, Dr Chong Han and Dr Kenny Wang, Listening to a second language: A study of listening difficulties in consecutive interpreting.

(2007 - 2008): Along with Jack Bower, Kanda University of International Studies. E-Tandem learning through synchronous and asynchronous computer-moderated communication between English L2 and Japanese L2 learners.
