The Black Turtles

Founded by legendary Indigenous artist Walangari Karntawarra and acclaimed Koori film-maker Troy J Russell, The Black Turtles fuse an urban contemporary sound with a traditional roots, reggae and rockabilly edge. Influences include John Fogerty, Ry Cooder and the Warumpi Band. Finding its beginnings at the Eora College of Performing Arts in Redfern, Sydney, The Black Turtles have a career that spans 20 years. During this time they have supported numerous local community events, completed East Coast tours and played at popular live venues around Sydney. Performance highlights include the Dreaming Festival in Brisbane and Peats’ Ridge Music Festival 2008 which were very well received.

The Black Turtles have, in the past, recorded with legendary Australian producer Nick Mainsbridge who has worked with and produced many of Australia’s cutting edge bands and singers including; Ratcat, Max Sharam, Tall Tales and True, Hunters and Collectors, and the Triffids. The Black Turtles have also performed at Peat’s’ Ridge Music Festival NYE 2009 and Walk Against Warming in the Botanic Gardens on Sat 12th Dec 2011.

  • Tim Gray - piano and keyboards
  • Chris Beltram - lead and Ukelele

A rare opportunity to hear the internationally renowned New York-based Australian pianist and music theatre exponent Lisa Moore perform contemporary works by Henry Cowell, Frederic Rzewski, Missy Mazzoli, Kate Moore and Martin Bresnick.

Please note: venue seating capacity is limited to 220.

Art of Sound - Workshop Martin Bresnick

Dubbed ‘Maestro from the Bronx’ the distinguished Yale University professor and composer Martin Bresnick will offer the unique opportunity to postgraduate, honours, and other interested staff and students, to hear him speak about his music and musical influences.
