She completed her Diploma of Laboratory Technology in 2011 and for the past 6 years she has worked as a laboratory technician in high school laboratories. This role involved assisting teachers in running the science labs and included contributing to the creation of practical demonstrations to suit the curriculum, setting up and assisting with class experiments, ensuring consumables are available and equipment in good working order and ordering consumables and repairs when required.

Kerri has extensive experience in ensuring that science laboratories and preparation rooms are up to Australian Standards and that storage and labelling of chemicals complies with Australian legislation.

Technical Expertise

Kerri’s position has her working with the Technical Manager to ensure smooth operation of the laboratories.

Duties include

  • Administering the consumable store, including distributing requested items to staff and students and replenishing them when required;
  • Assisting with the Institute ordering procedures, receiving deliveries and ensuring they are distributed to the appropriate staff and students;
  • Running the autoclaves to accommodate dry products and glassware, media, other solutions and soil samples;
  • Monitoring services to laboratories including gas and MilliQ water, and assisting the Technical Manager (Laboratories and Controlled Environments) to replace items when required;
  • Assisting in the preparation of reagents and samples for analysis
  • Assisting the Technical Manager (Laboratories and Controlled Environments) with the yearly equipment and chemical audits
