Leadership Changes At The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment

Over the last two years Peter Reich (Foundation Director), Ian Anderson (Director of Research) and Jann Conroy (Associate Director of Research) have driven the recruitment of staff to the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment and the establishment of the Institute’s research program.
HIE now has over 50 research and support staff members and 40 postgraduate students. Given our growth and maturation as an organisation, it is essential for the Institute to have full time leadership for the next phase of development and consolidation.
Peter Reich will continue to play an important role in the Institute’s research through a fractional appointment in the new position of Chief Scientist. He also maintains his appointment with the University of Minnesota as a F.B, Hubachek Sr. Chair and Regents Professor. Ian Anderson will assume the role of Institute Director while Jann Conroy is retiring at the end of the year leaving the position of Director of Research vacant. The new leadership team consists of:
Professor Ian Anderson
The Institute Director is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the Institute. He has the mandate to further develop the Institute's research and enhance the impact of its research through the development of national and international networks and partnerships with other research organisations, industry, government, and the community.
Professor Peter Reich
The Chief Scientist is responsible for providing strategic advice on the research direction and portfolio of the Institute. The Chief Scientist plays a key role as scientific advisor and mentor to the Institute’s researchers and advocate for the Institute.
New Appointment - Professor And Research Director
The Research Director serves as part of the senior management team responsible for the day to day operation of the Institute’s research programs and infrastructure.
