Concurrent HIE Summer and Honours Scholarships

The aim of the Institute's scholarships is to encourage students into either a Bachelor of Science (Honours) or Higher Degree Research program within the Institute. A HIE Summer Scholarship may be linked with a HIE Honours Scholarship – the advantage being that a student can begin their Honours year early. A student who undertakes a HIE Summer Scholarship and is accepted into a consecutive Bachelor of Science (Honours) program, subject to meeting the selection criteria for a HIE Honours Scholarship, will be awarded an extra $2,000 during their Honours year.

The HIE Summer Scholarship Award shall carry a tax-free stipend of $3,000 to be paid via two instalments over the tenure of the Award. At the discretion of the nominated supervisor, the first instalment will be paid to the student at the commencement of the assignment and the final instalment will be paid at the completion of the assignment. The level of the stipend will not be reduced during the period of the Award.

A concurrent HIE Honours Scholarship Award shall carry a tax-free stipend of $7,000 to be paid via two instalments over the tenure of the Award. The first instalment will be paid to the student following the Autumn session HECS census date (31 March) and the final instalment will be paid following the Spring session HECS census date (31 August). The second instalment will be paid to the Student upon written confirmation from the Supervisor that the student has maintained good progress toward completion of the degree. In addition, the Award includes up to $2,000 for consumables.
