Title of the seminar: Performance of CFST Column to Steel Beam Joints Subjected to Heating and Cooling Fire

Brief abstract of the seminar: This research focuses on investigating the performance of CFST column to steel beam joint under combined loading and fire. Three CFST column to steel beam joint specimens were tested under a complete fire and loading phase that includes initial loading, heating with constant external load, cooling with constant external load and post-fire residual bearing capacity assessment. Temperature distributions, failure modes, deformations and residual load bearing capacities of joint specimens were measured. Based on the determinations of material properties in different temperature phases, a finite element analysis (FEA) model was established to simulate the action of CFST column to steel beam joint in the life-time loading sequences including initial loading, heating, cooling and post-fire loading. The accuracy of this FEA model was verified by the experimental results. The FEA model was then used to analyze the performance of CFST column to restrained steel beam joint in the entire loading phase. Moment versus relative rotation angle relation of the joint in various cases was drawn and discussed according to the simulated results.
