Description

NMR Studies at UWA: from Sexual Deception in Plants to Preserving our Archaeological Heritage A/Prof. Lindsay Byrne Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis The University of Western Australia Abstract. The seminar will illustrate the diversity of NMR studies being undertaken using the CMCA’s NMR facilities at UWA. In addition to the studies mentioned in the title, the talk will cover a range of projects in chemistry, botany and soil science. Profile Dr Lindsay Byrne has managed the NMR facility at UWA for over 30 years. Whist the bulk of his research work is in organic and organometallic chemistry, he has undertaken NMR based research projects in a wide range of disciplines including soil science, botany, biochemistry, pharmacy, marine archaeology, microbiology, engineering and medicine. They cover topics as diverse as determining the structure of iron sequestering compounds in soil to studying artefacts and timbers from shipwrecks. The work has resulted in 70 publications.
