In the first Quantitative Special Interest Group Seminar for 2013, Professor Herb Marsh will present on: 'Student Evaluations of University Teaching: Recommendations for Policy and Practice'.
Professor Marsh developed the SEEQ course evaluation instrument that is used at UWS. During the Quant SIG presentation, Professor Marsh will provide an overview of:
* The Australian Course Experience Questionnaire and Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (and UK National Student Survey), used to benchmark universities/ departments.
* The ineffectiveness of student ratings as a means of differentiating between the performance of courses, programs, departments and universities.
* The effectiveness of student ratings as an identifier of the performance of teachers.
* The simple interventions that can lead to enhanced teaching effectiveness.
Because teaching effectiveness is relevant to all disciplines, the Quant SIG presentation will be relevant to all schools, departments and disciplines.
