Description

Throughout 2013 – 2014, the University of Western Sydney is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. This exhibition is part of those celebrations, revealing our institutional history via its art collection.

The exhibition 'Question Mark' features a joint project between visual art students who studied under the direction of lecturers Mike Birtchnell and Patsy Payne at UWS and the Canberra School of Arts in 1996.

The print portfolio 'Question Mark', explores the notions of ‘edition', 'reproduction' and 'original' – integral components of print media. These prints were created in the visual arts block in building 5 on Bankstown campus, which ran an Access Print Studio, utilised by artists from around Australia and indeed the world, and was established by the then Senior in Printmaking Mike Birtchnell.

The Access Print Studio ceased operating in 2000, however a print or artist proof of all works created in this studio were donated to the UWS Art Collection. This print portfolio is an example of some of the projects produced in the Access Print Studio on the University’s Bankstown Campus during the 1990s.
