Ian Stevenson, Lecturer and ACA, B Music from the UWS School of Humanities and Communication Arts will present "The Significance of Sound Ontology for Sound Design".
Abstract: Recent work in the humanities has focused on the historicity of conceptions and engagements with sound in the arts and the everyday (Bull 2012, Sterne 2012). Similarly, recent work in philosophy has examined aspects of the ontology or mode of existence of the phenomena referred to as sound (Nudds, et al. 2009). In this presentation I consider how a concern for sound ontology might influence the choices made by a sound designer.
