School of Social Sciences and Psychology Research Event Organised crime is a widely used term describing group criminal activity and it increasingly refers to many of the worst national and transnational crimes – illicit drug and arms trading, goods smuggling and people trafficking. State officials and law enforcement agencies seek new ways to address this phenomenon. At the same time, criminologists and legal scholars question the accuracy of "organised" as a descriptor for such collective activities and they cast doubt on the preventive value of a close reliance on criminal law amendments and the symbolic aspect of public crackdowns. This event will feature three leading international experts in the area discussing their own research work and findings in their fields of expertise with roundtable discussion and open audience questions. RSVP by 25/3/15 SSAP- Research@uws.edu.au
Speakers: Professor Dick Hobbs (UWS), Associate Professor Paddy Rawlinson (UWS), Professor Andreas Scholenhardt (University Queensland/University of Vienna)
