Description

Since the tragedy of 9/11, successive Australian governments have introduced a raft of new laws for the purposes of countering terrorism on our shores. For most Australians it has proved well-nigh impossible to keep up with the legislation, let alone fully appreciate the implications for themselves and their rights under Australian law or for the institutions and cultural expressions that underpin our democracy. Join us as our panel of experts explores these questions through a consideration of the most recent legislation with respect to reporting operations, access to computers and online data, warrants, preventative detention and the like. Tickets $15. Riverside Theatres 02 8839 3399

Speakers: Professor George Williams, a leading Australian constitutional lawyer and public commentator; Mr Paul Murphy, CEO, Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance; more to be announced
