The central Pacific nation of Kiribati is one of the countries in the world most vulnerable to climate change. Sea level rise and increasing salinity are threatening the lives of 105,000 people spread over 33 atolls in this remote corner of the Pacific. It’s the same ocean, which for generations has sustained the country that is now the source of its destruction.

About The Hungry Tide:The Pacific nation of Kiribati is likely to be the first country in the world to disappear as a result of climate change. Maria Tiimon, a Kiribati woman living in Sydney, has the task of alerting the world to her sinking homeland. We follow her to the Copenhagen Climate Conference and a year later to Cancun. Right from the start Maria struggles to find a balance between her advocacy work and the financial needs of her large family living on the islands. Meanwhile back on Kiribati sea walls are crumbling, and storm tides are sweeping into villages. Watch the trailer at http://thehungrytide.com.au/ About Tom Tom Zubrycki, arguably Australia’s most celebrated documentary maker, has earned an international reputation for his substantial and widely-respected body of documentaries including Temple of Dreams (2007), and Molly & Mobarak (2003).
