Description

The 'Vibratory Fields and Surfaces' exhibition features paintings by Celia Gullet, Ian Jones, Jennifer Keeler-Milne and Gordon Waters and explores the abstraction of territory and space.

Celia Gullet’s work focuses upon “Surface” which has led to her recent experimentation with the wax and other ways of layering, inspired by the patterns and rhythms found in nature.

Ian Jones creates an images which are a residue of the layering and erasure of thought, feeling and visual data on a picture plane, drawing with oil sticks on linen. These images map the movement of thought and representations of momentary encounters with space and time.

Jennifer Keeler-Milne recent work has been based in an urban context, depicting semi-abstract fragments of light from the streets of Japan as interiors of Parisian buildings.

Finally, Gordon Waters' work explores the spatial potential of abstract painting using layering of the painted surface, stencils and glazes. Within these layers are indirect references to landscape, as well as components of design such as architectural and mosaic motifs and calligraphic lettering.

The Margaret Whitlam Galleries are open Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.

Speakers: The exhibition will be opened by Dr Marilyn Waters, a former UWS academic, freelance writer, curator and practicing artist
