Information for Members

ICS membership

The Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) carries out world-class research on the transformations in culture and society in the context of contemporary global change. It operates as a ‘centre of excellence’ for inter-disciplinary, engaged and collaborative scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences for a digital age with a strong national and international reputation.

Institute membership is intended to be based on merit. Members must clearly meet research performance criteria set down by ICS through a triennial process of application and renewal. ICS has an interdisciplinary approach, but research activities of current and prospective members should fall within the Institute’s principal areas of research.

School-based membership is open to research active UWS academic staff located in a UWS school who meet the school-based membership criteria for University Research Institutes (URI) and whose research area and approach articulates demonstrably with that of ICS.

This page is designed to provide information of relevance to both ICS staff and school-based members. For further details about membership, please see the ICS Membership Policy (opens in a new window)(PDF, 141KB). Note that some documents linked to this page may require a member username and password for access (please telephone ICS on 9685 9600 or email ics@uws.edu.au to request this information).

Access for members to ICS research development funds

ICS is currently trialling a system of distributing available conference travel and research development support both for full-time ICS members and school-based ICS researchers. For information on how to access these funds, please see Access to ICS Conference Travel and Research Development Support (opens in a new window)(PDF, 191KB). Arranging events

If you would like to organise an event such as a workshop, seminar or conference, please read the ICS Events Procedure (opens in a new window)(PDF, 98KB) for information.

As a first step, you must complete an Event Proposal Form (opens in a new window)(PDF, 130KB) and email it, together with any supporting documents to the ICS Event Coordinator Christy Nguy, c.nguy@uws.edu.au. Christy is your point of contact for everything to do with event organisation and can assist you in filling in the form, and with costing budget items like catering using the Event Budget Template (opens in a new window)(Excel, 15KB). (If you have any issues downloading this document, please ask Christy to email it to you).
