The following paper presents issues and options for the development of teaching and learning standards

Features of the paper include:

  • a map of the teaching and learning standards terrain in Australian higher education (p.2)
  • potential dilemmas arising from national quality and standards policy initiatives (p.6)
  • 9 options for ways forward in the learning standards area (p.7-9)
  • selected national and institutional projects relating to teaching and learning standards (p.12).

The paper is intended to stimulate debate across the sector as we continue to consider the most appropriate way to measure and monitor leraning and teaching standards.  We welcome your feedback and look forward to ongoing robust discussion in this important area.  Please feel free to distribute this paper among your colleagues.

DIISRTE has recently released three Discussion Papers (opens in a new window) on proposed performance measurement instruments for assessing the quality of the student experience and learning outcomes.  These measures are proposed for use on the MyUniversity website and to inform continuous improvement by universities.
