iPad Initiative

Through innovative learning and teaching, UWS is empowering our students to engage in learning anytime, anywhere.

To support learning and teaching innovations across the curriculum, UWS will provide a free Apple 16GB iPad with Retina display to all new undergraduate students and ongoing academic staff in 2013.

iPad Collection

iPad collection has now closed for students commencing in Autumn Session 2013 as per the iPad Terms and Conditions (opens in a new window).

If you were unable to collect your iPad and you completed the iPad Collection - not able to attend form prior to the 31 March deadline you will be contacted shortly.

For concerns or questions about collection please complete the iPad Collection - not able to attend form.

You can find out how to connect your iPad to AirUWS, the University’s wireless network, through the links below:

For a list of helpful apps to assist you with your studies, see the iPad Suggested Apps webpage

Ongoing academic staff will receive more information on their eligibility and how to collect their iPad early in 2013. There will also be a number of staff development opportunities available to help staff make the most of their iPad in teaching.

Information about the initiative

The iPad initiative will assist academic staff in the delivery of cutting edge learning and teaching as we continue to develop our Blended Learning Strategy in 2013.

This mobile technology will enable students to engage with the growing number of online services – which will include online lectures, live web streaming of lectures, library services, apps and other tools which aim to provide the best possible learning and university experience. These online and off-campus options will complement face-to-face teaching which will remain core to learning and teaching at UWS.

The iPad distribution is just part of a comprehensive curriculum renewal strategy at UWS to provide more innovative, relevant, engaging and flexible study options to students and embed technology in the curriculum in 2013 and beyond. Using a blended learning model, the University will work with staff and students to create new ways of engaging with knowledge in online, face-to-face, community and work-based settings.

For more information on the initiative, please see the UWS News Centre story or the iPad initiative questions and answers web page. If you have any questions that are not answered on this page, please submit your query.

Current students

While this initiative is for commencing undergraduate students, the University is providing all current students with a $50 subsidy on textbook purchases from connectbooks in an effort to support their studies in 2013.

If you are a current student you will receive a letter to your home address detailing how the subsidy will work for you before the start of Autumn session (semester one) 2013.
