About IIE
The Institute for Infrastructure Engineering will build on the work of the Civionics Research Centre (CRC) and expand the areas of engineering research beyond civil engineering and electronic engineering into the areas of materials and mechanical engineering, structural systems, computational mechanics, and construction materials. It will also facilitate wider collaborations in the future with, for example, the areas of computing, mathematics, science, business and medicine. The establishment of the Institute would promote the concept of Smart Engineering which has developed through research into smart structures and smart materials, but it will also allow other areas of engineering to be supported where the use of electronic and embedded devices is promoted and where the use of computational predictive tools can assist in the analysis, design and maintenance of major hard infrastructure.
In summary the IIE will consider infrastructures issues from materials to systems.
