The NAIDOC Week Online Quiz 2012 was proudly sponsored by the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement, and Student Support Services. Of the 477 entries received, 62 entries correctly answered all 10 multiple choice questions to be eligible to have their short answers judged by the University of Western Sydney Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement Advisory Board Judging Panel who have selected the following Winners.
1st prize: Apple iPad 3 (32GB) and a Darug Information & Research Centre Resource Kit
Winner – Fabi Fugazza

One whereby the needs of both parties are understood and sought to be fulfilled co-operatively, fuelled by disdain for ignorance and commitment to positive change. - How are you contributing to building relationships for change?
By sourcing my information from the right places so as to collect correct information and contribute valuably rather than increase misconceptions during conversation. - What is one positive outcome you would like to see?
A better understanding of why specific attention to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues is required so the focus is improvement of and not justification of current policies.

Acknowledgement of the status of First Australians, that does not threaten the identity of the nation but strengthens it through pride and shared understanding. - How are you contributing to building relationships for change?
Academically, through researching how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges can contribute to benefitting Aboriginal communities but also the broader society. Personally, by being active in my local community. - What is one positive outcome you would like to see?
A greater understanding and awareness of Aboriginal issues in the broader community. I believe a lot of discrimination occurs through misunderstanding and fear.

- How do you define respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians?
Recognition of cultural differences, acknowledgement of legacy of white colonial hegemony that reproduces social inequity constructed in every aspect of society in respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Establishing scaffold to understanding for other Australians that acknowledges broad and fierce injustice, educates respect for diverse and original culture, and aims to address contemporary challenges created by inherited historical values.
- How are you contributing to building relationships for change?
By educating myself about true and alternate, sometimes unpopular histories, and passing knowledge on.
- What is one positive outcome you would like to see?
Broad understanding of how inequity is reproduced and a common understanding among all Australians of how this effects life opportunity, challenges and expectations.
