UWS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy Consultative Committee

The UWS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy Consultative Committee (ATSIESCC) monitors the implementation of the Indigenous Australian Employment Strategy. Refer to the Academic Staff and General Staff Agreements 2009-2012 for the Terms of reference.

 The Committee will include as part of its membership:

a. The University Executive member with responsibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment

  • Ann Tout - Executive Director, Office of People and Culture (Chair)


b. The Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander program unit

  • Assoc. Prof Berice Anning - Director and Dean, Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education


c. The Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement

  • Melissa Williams - Director, Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement (Secretary)


d. Two Union delegates one from each of NTEU and CPEU

  • Terry Mason - National Tertiary Education Union
  • CPEU 


e. Two Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who work for the University (one academic and one general employee) elected by the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who work for the University

  • Dr Gawaian Bodkin-Andrews - Research Fellow, The Centre for Positive Psychology and Education (Academic Staff)
  • Mark Leon - Desktop Engineer, IT Desktop Services (General Staff)


f. Two nominees of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

  • Frances Bodkin - External Committee Member
  • Rex Sorby - External Committee Member


g. Membership from (e) to (f) above will be renewed on a bi-annual basis.

Role of the ATSIESCC


The main aim of this committee is to monitor implementation initiatives developed under the UWS Indigenous Employment Strategy.

Committee members help shape the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Program at UWS, ensuring it will make a difference in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment at UWS.

This committee will meet quarterly to support implementation of key initiatives under the strategy.
