The Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement plays a crucial part in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Greater Western Sydney and linking these communities into various aspects of the University's core business. From contributing to celebrations of NAIDOC Week to negotiating endorsed Aboriginal Elders to perform 'Welcome to Country' and 'Acknowledgement of Country' addresses, the scope of what mutual engagement means continues to grow as understanding about First People’s experience grows amongst the broader community.
Such intentional, evolving engagement is mindful of the need to engage with communities in ways which members themselves drive, rather than participation channels being rigidly and unilaterally defined.
Based on our practice of listening, learning and working together, the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement is developing an Engagement Strategy which will be launched after input and due consideration with all relevant parties.
