UWS is pleased to celebrate two significant events in the Indigenous calendar, National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week. Both are an opportunity to recognise all Australians, and the unique place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

UWS strongly supports both National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week and hosts a range of activities on campus to promote and celebrate cultural awareness. UWS staff and students, together with members of the Greater Western Sydney community are invited to attend these activities.

National Reconciliation Week – 27 May to 3 June 2012

National Reconciliation Week 2012 posterNational Reconciliation Week is celebrated each year to commemorate two important milestones in the reconciliation journey – the anniversaries of the 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week is Let's Talk Recognition! (opens in a new window) with a particular focus on constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort.

NAIDOC Week – 1 to 7 July 2012

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The ‘Spirit of the Tent Embassy: 40 years on’ is the theme for NAIDOC Week 2012 (opens in a new window). This gives a unique opportunity for all Australians to honour Aboriginal and Islander cultures through the recognition and acknowledgment of Indigenous peoples, knowledge, skills, histories, traditions and cultures.
