Purchase of Computer Equipment

How do I purchase computer equipment?

Information Technology Procurement (ITP) is pleased to provide the service for the acquisition of computers and related equipment on behalf of the University. Our aim is to provide University Schools and Divisions with total IT solutions to fulfill their business needs, through accurate advice and expertise in the key areas of procurement, deployment, disposal and asset management.

In line with our aim, we hope that we can make your purchase an easy one. Before we discuss the ordering process, we would like to encourage all clients to seek the advice of the ITP team so we can ensure that your purchases will meet your needs for today and the future.

What we will do for you:

  • Assess your needs and how they fit within the UWS IT environment
  • Resolve software licensing issues
  • Ensure that new equipment is compatible with old, and if not, advise on solutions
  • Assist you to remain within UWS Standard Operating Environment recommendations, which guarantees full support from ITS
  • Ensure that we are helping you plan for the future.

Given that acquiring IT equipment is a specialised area, we hope that you will rely on the expertise of our team to assist you with making selections.

How to order?

ITP Client Account Officers assist Schools and Divisions on a daily basis.

  1. Contact ITP by emailing your Client Account Officer at ITP@uws.edu.au.
  2. Provide the following information to your Client Account Officer:
    • Cost Centre
    • Project
    • General Ledger Code
    • Campus Code
    • Entity Code
  3. Your Client Account Officer will email you a pdf quote.

Choosing a computer

Only computers meeting UWS standards receive full ITS support at no additional charge. Commonly supplied equipment includes:

  • Standard desktop - Ultra Slim Build
  • Standard tower - Tower Build
  • Standard laptop - T520 Notebook
  • Lightweight laptop - X220 Notebook
  • Tablet -  X220 Tablet

Please note that prices are subject to change at the discretion of the vendor, they exclude GST and do not factor in leasing prices. The provided prices are to be used as a general reference only. For more details, contact your friendly Client Account Officer or ITP on extension 7ITP (7487).

What if I am unable to read my quote in the file format ITP have sent?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to open this file. Acrobat Reader is included on all standard UWS computers and is also available for download free of charge from the Adobe website.

How do I turn my quote into an order?

This is where we have made your job super easy! All you have to do is:

  • Carefully check the order details and advise your Client Account Officer if any changes are needed,
  • Complete and obtain the required delegate signatures for the following fields:
    • Requisitioned By:
    • Approved By:
  • fax the signed order to extension 7488 (externally 02 9678 7488) for processing by the ITP team.

How do I chase an order?

We strive to provide a pro-active service, so we hope that we have contacted you about any delays long before you have a need to chase an order. To check the status of your order, please contact your Client Account Officer.

How do I get delivery of my goods?

ITP staff specialises in the deployment of products. Most products will be delivered to you direct from our vendors, but sometimes they will arrive in our store. On these occasions our friendly staff will contact you to make arrangements for delivery. Please contact your Client Account Officer if you have any questions relating to deliveries.

Can I purchase IT equipment on my UWS Corporate Credit Card?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. All IT purchases must be processed through ITP. For more information, please refer to the UWS Corporate Credit Card Policy, which states that no IT equipment can be purchased on University corporate credit cards.

What if I have a question that is not covered here?

The ITP team will be happy to respond to your questions. We try to make it our culture to be one step ahead of you but if for some reason this does not happen please contact us.

Personal purchases of desktop and laptop machines

The following vendors have offered UWS staff and students discounted pricing for computers bought directly from the vendor's web site. Any purchases are completely private and all details are between you and the vendor. UWS is not responsible for any transaction, warranty, or related issues. Machines purchased under these agreements are not supported by the University.

Personal Software

Some Microsoft and Adobe software packages can be purchased by staff at heavily discounted prices under the Microsoft/CAUDIT Work at Home Agreement and Adobe Home Use Agreement (staff login required).
