What’s New in ITP?
To keep the University updated on the services offered by ITP, this page provides information on our current projects and initiatives.
Acer Computers
As was announced by the IT Services Director, Acer Computers has been selected by the University as our primary supplier of computers. The decision follows a review of the market and an extensive tender process. This will mean that any PC or laptop which is due for replacement will now be replaced with an Acer when the current lease expires.
We are excited about the potential this key partnership offers to the University. The current machines listed in the 'Computers' shop on iProcurement are direct replacements for the existing models, but we will shortly be adding additional machines from Acer's wide range. The tender process has allowed us to re-visit our requirements and secure competitive pricing.
Acer offers a high level of local support with production and distribution facilities in Homebush. Acer will also be working with the University to enhance the distribution and set-up of new machines and the removal of old machines.
There will continue to be a requirement for specialist machines and Acer will build computers for us to meet the demands of the research community. A small number of machines will need to be sourced from alternative channels and these will need to be approved as per the current policy. If you are unsure or have any questions, please contact ITP on 7487 or itp@uws.edu.au.
New Leasing Processes
For those of you involved in the procurement processes, please note that ITP is about to run the first lease return for this new vendor which coincides with the first iProcurement system change for returns. To ensure the lease return will be as easy as possible for Cost Centre Managers, the following processes have been developed:
- An alert will go to the Cost Centre Manager (CCM) through iProcurement advising there is an order to be completed.
- The CCM will find these orders in iProcurement and confirm that:
i) The machine needs to be replaced. If you are not changing the machine over, you simply cancel the order.
ii) The details of the recommended replacement are what you require this time. For example, the majority of changeovers are replacing like for modern-day equivalent of like. The order will come with this recommendation and give you the option to change it if you wish.
iii) All details for the location of the existing unit are correct so that we can find you to complete the changeover. The information at the base of the page is critical for us to get reporting to the bank correct. Please ensure that this is completed correctly. Please DO NOT cancel the order and create another or ITP reporting to the bank will be incorrect. - ITP will be contacting clients upon distribution of the alert and our staff will be on the phone to you through the process for the first time.
- Please be mindful that we cannot wait until the last moment before ordering as there are steps that need to be taken behind the scenes to fulfill your request.
- When the new machines are delivered, the old machines will be removed immediately; no more waiting with equipment lying around for a pickup!
IT Procurement has put a lot of thought into the new processes and how it can make your experience easier; however, we anticipate some teething issues. A Lease Change Overview flow chart (PDF, 84.85 KB) and PSR Processing flow chart (PDF, 94.52 KB) are available for you to refer to. Please know that we are at the ready on extension 7487 to help you out.
iProcurement
On the 20th February, iProcurement was released to UWS. ITP is integrating the most popular items into the two IT related stores available on iProcurement. 'IT Stuff' and 'Computers' is where you will find products most frequently asked for at UWS. With the change of preferred suppliers (as mentioned above) in the next 6-8 weeks, ITP asks that the purchases for computers be delayed to coincide with this change. As always, ITP are happy to help with orders, but in the spirit of iProcurement, we will not be creating them in the same way we previously did. We have staff available on ext 7487 who can assist you over the phone to order online.
E-Waste
ITP are happy to share that in 2012 we coordinated 12 tonnes of e-waste - over 90% of which was recycled. If you have any electronic waste that you would like to discard of, please follow the directions on our disposal page.
Fuji Xerox
ITP are pleased to announce that the roll out of the new Fuji Xerox printer fleet is complete. We are now working towards removing stand-alone devices as well as any devices three years old and over. The older devices will be disposed of. If you have any concerns or questions please contact Simon Hedges or Vickie Robinson.
Captivate Site License
Adobe Captivate is now available on UWS staff computers through 'Run Advertised Programs'. This software will assist with interactive teaching using an iPad. As part of our licensing agreement, Adobe is also offering a significant discount to staff purchasing software for home use. See the information for ordering at home in our Software page.
