Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship

Indigenous Access Scholarships help Indigenous students with education costs. Commonwealth Scholarships for Indigenous students that were available in previous years will continue to be offered. They will be processed through the University Admissions Centre (UAC) and applicants must apply online through the UAC website.

There are two main scholarship types available:

  • Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship to assist students with general education costs
  • Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship to assist students from regional and remote areas who have to relocate to attend higher education with accommodation costs.

Eligibility

All Indigenous students receiving a Department of Human Services payment, including those assisted under veterans’ schemes

Courses

All undergraduate courses.

Benefits

  • Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship valued at $2254 in 2010 (indexed annually).
  • Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship valued at $4508 in 2010 (indexed annually).

Duration

Four years.

Application and Selection Process

Application is required via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Meeting the scholarship eligibility criteria does not guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship, which are limited in number – there are currently more applicants than scholarships. As part of a competitive application process, applicants are ranked against the eligibility criteria and institutions award scholarships to students who best meet the criteria.
