Sydney Catchment Authority Engineering Scholarship

The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) is a statutory authority established by the Sydney Water Catchment Management Act 1998. They are a small organisation with a big brief - manage and protect the drinking water catchments, as well as the dams and other water supply infrastructure, to supply reliable, high quality raw water.

They are responsible for a network of 21 storage dams which hold more than 2.5 million megalitres. Drawing on the best science and technical advice to ensure the catchments and water supply infrastructure are managed to world's best practice.

Their assets are spread over a large geographical area, ranging from the Shoalhaven Catchment in the south, to the Warragamba and the Blue Mountains catchments in the west and north, and east to the Woronora and Upper Nepean catchments. They work in partnership with catchment communities and other agencies to protect these catchments, which cover 16,000 square kilometres.

Some of their customers include Sydney Water, Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee councils, who together supply water to 4.5 million households, businesses and other users in Sydney and the Illawarra, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven regions.

The SCA employs approximately 260 people and their main office is based in Penrith. They seek to encourage young people to pursue a career in civil engineering, particularly in the water industry, in partnership with UWS.

Applications and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the receipt of the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, their ability to meet the criteria and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.

Applicants must complete the UWS Donor Funded Group B Online Application Form and submit the form to the Scholarships and Student Advancement Unit before Wednesday, 26 June 2013. Applications received after this date will not be accepted.
