Most Outstanding Year 11
The UWS Most Outstanding Year 11 (MOYR11) Award is designed to support students from Greater Western Sydney who demonstrate academic excellence in their Year 11 studies and who have also shown leadership qualities within their school or community.
Applications for the UWS Most Outstanding Year 11 Award will be open in September 2013.
One award is offered per participating High School within the Greater Western Sydney region.
Award Benefits:
Each Most Outstanding Year 11 recipient will receive the following:
- Conditional Academic Excellence Scholarship valued at $20,000 ($5,000 per year) to study at UWS,
- HSC Study Grant valued at $500,
- Guaranteed UWS Course Offer.
Recipients must successfully receive an ATAR of 90 or greater as well as an official offer into a UWS undergraduate degree to receive the Academic Excellence Scholarship. The $500 HSC Study Grant is obligation-free and recipients are not required to attend UWS.
The guaranteed course offer will be made direct to the student and is not conditional upon ATAR. Due to additional selection criteria, guaranteed offers cannot be made to the following courses:
- Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery
- Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery/Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Music
- Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Physiotherapy
- Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry)
- Bachelor of Laws (Non-Graduate Entry)
- Bachelor of Information Communications Technology (Enhanced Pathway)
- Bachelor of Education (Birth - 5 years)
- Bachelor of Contemporary Art
Duration: The Academic Excellence Scholarship is available for up to four years. The HSC Study Grant is available as a one-off payment.
Application Process and Selection:
The School Principal, in conjunction with the Year 11 Coordinator and/or Careers Adviser, is invited to select a high performing Year 11 student based on academic performance during Year 11. Other criteria, such as leadership skills and contribution to the high school and greater community, may also be taken into consideration. Students should be selected based on their likelihood of meeting an ATAR of 90 or greater.
Guidelines for secondary selection criteria may include:
- Outstanding leadership qualities - Level of leadership demonstrated in both the school environment and the broader community.
- Community involvement - Demonstrated participation and contribution to school and community-based volunteer activities.
Recipients will be presented with a conditional Academic Excellence scholarship to the value of $20,000, a Certificate of Recognition, $500 HSC Study Grant and guaranteed course offer at their high school award ceremony.
The Scholarships and Student Advancement Unit at UWS will send a letter outlining the application process later this year.
