Advanced Materials Characterisation Facility (AMCF)

SEM
UWS’s latest generation field emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) equipped with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy for elemental analysis offers ultra high resolution for use in nanotechnology, engineering, chemistry, physics and biomedicine, among other fields.

X-Ray Diffraction Analysis
Applications range from qualitative and quantitative phase identification, under ambient or non-ambient conditions, to crystal structure solution from powder samples, crystallite size determination, micro strain analysis, residual stress analysis, and preferred orientation.

Thermal Characterisation
The advanced thermal analysis facility is unique in Australia. Thermal characterisation is used in the development of such materials as polymerd, layered silicate nanocomposites, as well as analysis of mineralogy and biological systems.

Vibrational Spectroscopy
The vibrational spectroscopy facility consists of Mid infrared and multi-laser Raman micro-spectrometers, which are used for determining the chemical structure of biological samples and organic materials.
