Equipment Access

Advanced Materials Characterisation Facility
The AMC Facility is run by Research Manager, Dr Richard Wuhrer and has a wide range of state-of-the-art instruments including; SEM’s, XRD’s, AFM, Micrometrics, Probes and Thermal Characterisation for materials (biological and non-biological) characterisation.

Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer
The secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) determines surface and near-surface composition in materials and detects elements ranging from hydrogen to uranium in parts per billion. It is a world class instrument and one of its kind in Australia.
Genome Sequencer
The UWS Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE) has a sequencing suite (PDF, 5135.52 KB) incorporating Sanger and Next-generation Sequencing Platforms managed by Dr Caroline Janitz.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
The University has made a multi-million dollar investment in ensuring that its nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) facility is a national leader. In many aspects it has no rivals in Australia.

Mass Spectrometry Facility
The Mass Spectrometry Facility brings together advanced mass spectrometric equipment and expertise to support medical, biological, molecular and macromolecular research.

Confocal Bio-Imaging
UWS Confocal Bio-Imaging Facility (CBIF) at Hawkesbury has instruments that image dynamic events in live cells, plant or animal tissues in 3D, analyse movement of genes and proteins and map elements in living or inorganic samples.
