Dane Student

Danes Down Under

Four students from the Technical University of Denmark undertook work experience in the Centre for Advanced Food Research on the Hawkesbury Campus in Spring Semester 2004.Danes

Ms Signe Jensen and Ms Maja Holme Nielsen, both 3rd year food science students, worked with Dr Linh Vu on several small projects, including writing a user manual for a new pilot-scale UHT machine which was acquired recently for the food pilot plant.

Ms Christina Wiid Olsen and Mr Rasmus Lundsgaard, MSc students in Chemical Engineering, worked with Dr Minh Nguyen on the operation of a prototype encapsulation machine which is being developed under an ARC sponsored project. This machine has great potential for encapsulating functional ingredients such as probiotic bacteria for use in the food industry.

Signe and Maja were friends back in Denmark, as were Christina and Rasmus, but the four of them had not met until they came to UWS. Living in on Hawkesbury Campus, and working in close proximity, they soon got to know each other pretty well, and travelled together to Queensland at the end of the year before returning to their studies in Denmark.
