UWS, through its English language partner institutions UWSCollege, now offers concurrent English language tuition with enrolment in 2-3 UWS units. This is primarily for students who do not quite meet UWS English language requirements.

Under this arrangement students who achieve the following scores:

  •   TOEFL 540 / CBT 213 but with a TWE between 3.0 and 4.5
  •   IELTS 6   Overall but with a Writing or Reading score below 6

can be accepted into the UWS Study Abroad program to study 3 units with UWS and either prior or concurrent English language at our English language provider UWSCollege

The cost of the program will remain the same as listed with 2-3 of the units taught at UWS and the additional unit (English for Academic Purposes) at UWSCollege.

Options include:

a)    Prior English at UWSCollege. Students can enrol in the 6 week Intensive Writing course at UWSCollege which commences approximately 8 weeks prior to the start of the UWS semester

b)    Concurrent study at UWSCollege and UWS. Please note English language classes tend to be held from 9am to 1.30pm daily. Concurrent study will restrict enrolment at UWS to afternoon study only.

Exchange Plus English Language Programs
UWS provides heavily discounted rates to Exchange students who have applied for an exchange placement at UWS but who do not meet the minimum TOEFL or IELTS requirement (i.e. 6/6.5 in IELT or 550/600 in TOEFL)

You will need to have achieved a minimum 5.5 in IELTs or 525 in TOEFL to join these 8-11 week programs. Students with lower scores will be required to study for 16–22 weeks or longer. Discount rates apply for each 8-11 week period studied. To determine the number of weeks required for pre-course English study refer to the Pathways and English colleges page.

Please note: All applications for these special rates must be sent to the UWS Study Abroad Officer.

Alternative English Language Tests
Under some circumstances UWS English Language providers will permit partner institutions to conduct English placement tests on their premises under secure conditions.
