School of Law
Welcome
Welcome to the School of Law at the University of Western Sydney. The Law School is over 15 years old and has a very successful Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program, as well as a thriving higher degree by research (master and doctoral thesis) program. The School has a mission to excel in education and research, which values its students and staff.
All law teaching for the University is conducted through the School of Law, thus the law taught to business students, is taught by lawyers.
We are actively committed to social justice and professional practice, as we support our graduates to serve in their communities. The Law School places emphasis on the acquisition of legal knowledge and skills, including oral presentations, moot courts, negotiations, interviews and drafting work. The UWS Law Students have had success in a variety of national and international mooting competitions, coached by UWS academics.
The law degree is fully accredited for admission to practice in NSW. We also offer a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, in conjunction with the College of Law. In 2010 we launched the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic, which provides students with the opportunity to get real world experience with the Macquarie Legal Centre in the Local Court at Parramatta.
The Law School publishes two journals, the University of Western Sydney Law Review and the Elder Law Review. The Law School has three main research clusters around international governance, social justice, environmental law and an overarching research into legal education.
We offer students a supportive atmosphere across two campuses of UWS – Parramatta and Campbelltown. Our academic, professional and library staff are knowledgeable and student-oriented in their approach and are available for consultation. There are excellent modern facilities, including a high quality library resource and moot courts. There is an active and enthusiastic UWS Law Students Association and UWS Law Alumni chapter.
We look forward to you studying and researching law with us.

History
The UWS School of Law was established on 1 January 2001 as a result of the amalgamation of the three former federated members of the University of Western Sydney - Hawkesbury, Macarthur and Nepean. The establishment of the school brought together the law programs of those organisations.
