Career Profile
Dr Newlyn is a Lecturer in the School of Law. He has a long history of engagement within the field of education. He teaches and researches in the areas of Business Law, Contract Law, Constitutional Law, Introduction to the Law and Legal Education.
The long association with education by Dr Newlyn began after completing a Bachelor of Education (Hons.) degree at the University of Wollongong. This degree was followed by the completion of a Bachelor of Laws degree at Sydney University.
Dr Newlyn has undertaken teaching work in Primary & High Schools in New South Wales and the South East Asian region and at a number of tertiary institutions within Australia, including Wollongong University, Sydney University, the University of Technology (Sydney) and the University of New South Wales.
In 2006 Dr Newlyn was awarded a PhD from the Faculty of Law at the University of Wollongong. His thesis was titled "The Legalisation of Education - A study of New South Wales teachers and their professional development needs in the area of law".

David also spent time teaching students at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, the oldest and one of the most prestigious Universtities in Thailand.
His experiences in teaching in NSW secondary schools and universities both in Australia and overseas have made David aware of the importance of productive pedagogy and assessment in all areas of education.

David has been invited to contribute to the Oxford Australian Law Dictionary that will be published in 2009.
Engagement Interests
David has extensive experience in criteria-based marking, and has been involved with the marking of the NSW Basic Skills Test, English Language and Literacy Assessment, Secondary Numeracy Assessment Program, and the High School Certificate Legal Studies exam for many years.
David has also undertaken research, consultancy and reporting tasks for the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (NSW AECG), recognised as the peak consultative body for Aboriginal education in NSW.
David is committed to social justice for Aboriginal people and sees his work in education as part of that commitment.
