Biography
Dr Daud Hassan joined the University of Western Sydney in 2009 with considerable teaching, research and community service experience. Dr Hassan taught at five different universities in Australia and Overseas, including University of New England, University of Technology Sydney and Victoria University.
In 2003, Dr Hassan held a visiting position at the Graduate School of Law, Kobe University, Japan. He is the recipient of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship 2003. In 2006 he was invited as a Keynote speaker for International Conference on Marine Waste Water Discharges and Coastal Environment held in Antalya, Turkey. Dr Hassan attended two expert meetings on international environmental law held in the Netherlands and Finland in 2006 with the financial support of Martinus Nijhoff, University of Tilburg and the University of Lapland. In 2007 Dr Hassan was a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Bern, Switzerland. In 2010, upon invitation, Dr Hassan visited David C. Lam Institute for East West Studies (LEWI), Hong Kong Baptist University and undertook a collaborative research on South East Asian Marine Environmental Law and Policy issues.
Before joining UWS Law School Dr Hassan was the Director of Research and Postgraduate Programmes at Victoria Law School.
At present Dr Hassan is the Higher Degree Research Coordinator at the UWS Law School. He is engaged in supervising HDR students in the areas of International and Comparative Environmental Law, Law of the Sea and International Human Rights Law.
