Orientation Information for Students Commencing Law in 2013

To help you get ready for studying in the Law School, we have arranged several activities to help you.

My Course Planning Sessions

To help you get enrolled in the correct units, learn about the mechanics of your course, receive the First Year Handbook, and meet fellow students, My Course Planning Sessions will be held as follows:

At Parramatta:

Wednesday, 6 February from 3pm-4pm
Building EA, Lecture Room G.18

At Campbelltown:

Friday, 8 February from 10am-11am
Building 4, Room G.14

You are encouraged to attend.

First Year Camp

We’re the only school at UWS that offers an orientation camp for our students. Without fail, students who come to camp love it. Plus they settle in better, and become leaders in their cohort.

You’ll be taken from campus by coach to the camp venue and you’ll experience a great mix of social and academic activities, including talks by current and former students on surviving first year, legal study skills and how to plan for a career inside and outside law. You’ll return feeling exhausted but glad you attended.

The camp is held over two days on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 February. It costs you $80 (the Law School sponsors the rest of the cost of your accommodation, transport and meals). You can register and pay via iPay, which is the University’s on-line payment site and can be found at ipay.uws.edu.au.

Hurry because places are limited, and so it is first come, first served! Registration closes Friday 15 February 2013.

Orientation Sessions

Orientation is your introduction to your campus and the Law School. You will hear from some of the academic staff, go on a tour of the campus, have a chance to ask questions of staff, maybe buy your text books and find your classrooms, get your student card and meet fellow students. Sessions are held at Campbelltown and Parramatta.

At Parramatta:

Monday 18, February from 10am- 12noon
Building EA, Lecture Room G.18

At Campbelltown:

Friday 22, February from 10am - 12noon
Building 30, Lecture Room G.213

These sessions are free and you do not need to register your attendance.

Orientation Day

If you’re working full-time and can’t make it to the Orientation Camp or the Orientation Sessions, we’ve got an Orientation Day on the first Saturday after the start of semester. We find this suits mature age students well, and those who attend can enjoy some of the activities from camp and the Orientation Sessions. It is on Saturday 2 March from 9.30am to 2pm at Parramatta and is a full day program. You can register by emailing our First Year Administrator, Jane Lindsay at j.lindsay@uws.edu.au, with your name, student number and course.
